Menu Board/Weekly Event Board

I made a very neat and practical Christmas gift for my very organized mother today.
Materials:
Plain frame
Scrapbook or other design paper
Modge Podge
Scrapbook letters
Measuring tool
Exacto knife

I used the cardboard included inside the frame as the base of my menu board. I didn't have to cut or measure! I used special handmade paper that I got from Blick instead of scrapbook paper. It gave my design texture without being too "busy". The sheets were about 4 times as large as a scrapbook sheet so I saved money and now can make 2 menu boards (one to give and one to keep!)

I first measured my board and divided by 7 to make my day areas symetrical.  I put the darker colored paper over the entire board first then put the alternate colored days' paper over top of the darker colored paper. I used Modge Podge (paper formula) to secure my specialty paper to the base board. My board started to warp so I used a handy book (just happened to be my son's heavy government book) to make the board flat.
I measured again for the placement of my day of the week scrapbook letters and applied them with Modge Podge.  I allowed drying time in between all seperate applications (while singing Christmas songs) to prevent warping and wrinkles in my paper.

When all was dry, I put the board in the frame (cleaned both sides of the glass first) and I had a super sweet board that could be used to plan the weekly menu OR the calendar events for the week.
Loved this project!!

Office Makeover Paint 6.9.22

New job, new (to me) office! I was recently promoted to an administrator at a middle school. The office I will be in is spacious and has its own bathroom! It’s a great space but needs a makeover! This will be the first of several blog entries detailing the updates! Before The new paint color is Aria from PPG. I was lucky that a paint crew was hired to paint my office and bathroom! After

2.9.11 Kitchen Redo

This is not my kitchen but the cabinets are almost the exact same color as the ones in my kitchen. Time for a makeover! I did not want to take apart and sand my cabinets (lazy, right?) so I chose to use this Zissner cover stain. It is amazing stuff! You can find it at Lowe's. It covers and creates a surface that will be ready for your paint! http://www.lowes.com/pd_192480-90-3501_0 __    Here is my kitchen with a base coat in process. I decided to do two coats just to be sure my surface was prepared.    After one evening of drying time, I started painting my cabinets. I decided to go with Valspar paint from Lowe's. I chose Kettle Black .             After two coats of Kettle Black, I covered my cabinets with a coat of Valspar clear coat . This gave my cabinets another layer of protection.   Here are my finished cabinets! I am very pleased with the final product!

Emily's Teacher Rocking Chair

This rocking chair was created as a gift for my student teacher, Emily. The rocking chair was painted with the colors of her new classroom. Emily loves owls so I painted a cute owl on the back part of the chair. Students helped me paint the rest of the chair after 2 coats of primer. I probably could've just done 1 coat of primer but went with 2!
