Guest Bathroom Makeover

I've been wanting to update my guest bathroom for awhile now. Especially the cabinets and faucet. The faucet was so close to the edge of the sink you had to rub against the back of the sink to get any water! I had been cruising Pinterest and the web for alternate cabinet solutions that I could afford. I was inspired by the idea from this website: http://timmonsfamilylemonade.blogspot.com/2010/09/cupboard-makeover-phase-1.html Here are some before pictures: Don't you love the 90's orange glow wood?  Here is the old faucet:  Here are the old "Hollywood Lights": I didn't want to remove the cabinets or sand them (lazy, I know!) so I used 2 coats of primer prior to painting the cabinet black. I also primed the medicine cabinet that was that same orangey wood color. While primer was drying I attacked the old light fixture.  Guess what was underneath?  A lovely hole in the sheet rock.  Of course the base of my new light fixture is round and won'

Crazy Pet Portraits

Supplies: 4x4 canvases Modge Podge Acrylic paint Brushes Scrapbook paper Scrapbook letters Wooden canvas stands Black spray paint Silver glitter spray paint Printer I don't know where I come up with these crazy ideas but here we go! I made these as a gift for my Aunt.  These are her adorable pets Patti the Boston Terrier and Winston the cat. I cut scrapbook paper to fit the mini canvas and modge podged it on. I then added the print out of each pet along with a scrapbook letter for their name. I Modge Podged again and added some sparkle spray paint. Cute and unusual gift!

Paper Flower Frames

This year for Christmas, I decided to hand craft most of my gifts. I needed the therapy crafting offers and it was fun! Here are some frames I made for my grandma and great aunt. Supplies: Wooden frames from Wal-Mart Scrapbook paper Modge Podge (paper formula) Scissors Exacto knife Glue gun I Modge Podged scrapbook paper to the front of the frame and trimmed around the edge with an exacto knife. I then applied a layer of Modge Podge to seal the paper. After, I created paper flowers to add some interest using a coordinating color paper. I found a great tutorial for paper flowers here: http://jonesdesigncompany.com/flowers/rolled-paper-flowers-tutorial/ . After creating the flowers, I glued them using my glue gun. I printed a photo to put in the frame and done!

Menu Board/Weekly Event Board

I made a very neat and practical Christmas gift for my very organized mother today. Materials: Plain frame Scrapbook or other design paper Modge Podge Scrapbook letters Measuring tool Exacto knife  I used the cardboard included inside the frame as the base of my menu board. I didn't have to cut or measure! I used special handmade paper that I got from Blick instead of scrapbook paper. It gave my design texture without being too "busy". The sheets were about 4 times as large as a scrapbook sheet so I saved money and now can make 2 menu boards (one to give and one to keep!)  I first measured my board and divided by 7 to make my day areas symetrical.  I put the darker colored paper over the entire board first then put the alternate colored days' paper over top of the darker colored paper. I used Modge Podge (paper formula) to secure my specialty paper to the base board. My board started to warp so I used a handy book (just happened to be my son'

Salt Dough Ornaments

Today my students and I got into the holiday spirit and created some salt dough ornaments for their parents. I made the dough from this recipe and stored it overnight until I could get it to school. 1/2 cup salt 1/2 cup warm water 1 cup flour I rolled it out and we cut little medallions from it using a small Tupperware container (I'm resourceful). I used a "create your own stamp" kit from Wal-Mart to have them personalize the stamp to emboss their medallion to give it a personal touch.  Then poked a hole at the top for the string. I will cook these suckers at 250 degrees for about 2 hours or until they are hard all the way through.  I will then spray paint them gold or silver (whatever the students choose) and there you go! Easy, cheap gift for the kiddos to give! Of course I was inspired to do this by this pin on Pinterest! Shocking, I know! This was the inspiration picture for my project (mine look nothing like these...ha!)
